It was a sunny day with a bit of wind at the Tennis Center on Nov. 2. POP players and tennis players alike experienced a perfect day on the courts to demo racquets and POP paddles. Cheri Megli and Marco Navarro came for the 12th straight year with their “store on wheels.” This event always provides a great opportunity for players to purchase tennis clothes, shoes, and accessories and to demo the latest in equipment. Apparently, many of our players upgraded to new racquets, as the Wilson Three and Wilson Five were big sellers.
Lon Federwitz has volunteered to be our new POP chair for the Tennis Club. He and his helpers brought along several POP paddles for players to demo on courts 5 and 6. Those who purchased paddles were able to take one home that day, as Lon had a large supply of inventory! Gene McGeehan and Marco Navarro (manager of Tennis Cabana) assisted with demo of tennis racquets on courts 7 and 8.
Snacks, along with lemonade, iced tea, and wine, were provided on the patio. Mary Jo Quilling donated her popcorn machine to our Tennis Club. This was the first event that put it to use, and it worked well and was very popular! Who does not like the smell and taste of popcorn?! Thanks to Richard Boyer for cleaning it up and putting it back in the tennis office.
Our volunteers who unloaded all the Tennis Cabana items were Judy Gerba, Maureen Walsh, Claudia Enea, Terry Lemberg, Marje Valenti, and Joann Bosworth. It’s nice to be the clean-up crew, as there is less inventory! Those volunteers were Gene Wakefield, Linda Foy, Diane Boyer, Denise Phillips, Mary Jo Quilling, and Ann Lane.
It is so pleasurable to hold an event where the volunteers ask if they can help. We have a special club, and I thank all of you for that.
Come join the fun at our Tennis Club where you can enjoy the camaraderie and the game of tennis or POP tennis. There are levels for everyone! For more information, call the Tennis Center at 520-825-0255.
