It was April 23 and another glorious day in SaddleBrooke when 22 members and three guests of the British Club gathered at the bocce ball courts in SaddleBrooke One for the fun of playing bocce ball. Following the games, everyone headed to the home of Bob Zimdar and Twink Gates, who hosted a potluck picnic, where they feasted on a delicious selection of salads (chopped salad, coleslaw, and potato salad), shrimp with cocktail sauce, charcuterie board, deviled eggs, quiche, scalloped potatoes, and Swedish meatballs. Accompanying the BYOB, a refreshing fruit punch was served with Malibu coconut rum, if desired. With coffee, the players enjoyed a delicious array of desserts: New York cheesecake with raspberries, brownies, and fresh strawberries. At the end of the evening, the bocce ball winners, losers, and all in attendance were awarded fun prizes of Hershey’s chocolate and Snickers bars for their endeavors to make this event so successful!

Everyone agreed it was a fun way to spend an afternoon and evening and thanked Twink and Bob for organizing this fun event for the British Club.

On May 6 the British Club took part in the historic occasion of the Coronation of King Charles III. The spectacular coverage on TV displayed the coronation in all its glory, pomp, and circumstance, with thousands of revelers in the streets joining in celebrating this historic occasion all over the United Kingdom and British Isles—indeed, all over the world.

Eleven British Club members attended a coronation breakfast buffet at the home of Twink and Bob. Members feasted on sausage rolls, quiche, deviled eggs, shrimp and cocktail sauce, cheese and salami, cheese board, vegetable straws, and vegetable tray with hummus. For those with a sweeter tooth, there were freshly baked scones with strawberry jam and clotted cream and lemon curd, coconut macaroons, Ferrero Raffaello chocolates, and cheesecake with fresh raspberries. Tea, of course, was served, along with coffee. They even had a surprise of Shandies, a beer and 7Up recipe contributed by one of our new members.

Everyone thanked Twink and Bob for this very enjoyable Coronation Day breakfast.

At Twink and Bob’s house that same afternoon, six members of the British Club enjoyed watching the TV coverage of the 149th Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs. It was a fun afternoon, with members enjoying delicious mint juleps and light snacks for the occasion.

A drawing was held with tickets bearing the horses’ names. As there were only six of us and 23 horses, each member took three tickets, and four took an extra ticket. The prize was a bottle of Prosecco, which was won by David Taylor, our treasurer, who had the ticket for the winner, Mage. A jolly time was had by all! Everyone thanked Twink and Bob for hosting this fun afternoon.
