British Club Celebrates

Mary (Twink) Gates

It was St. George’s Day on April 23 when 50 revelers, including members and friends of the British Club, gathered together for a wonderful British buffet at the magnificent home of Margaret and Tom Somenske in SaddleBrooke Ranch.

In addition, it was a time to celebrate the 20-year anniversary of the British Club, founded by

Mike and Eileen Sedgwick

Mike Sedgwick here in SaddleBrooke. Mike and his wife Eileen were presented with a glorious anniversary/birthday cake adorned with the Union Jack and resplendent with brightly flickering candles. Everyone joined in the jolliness of this special occasion by singing “For He’s a Jolly Good Fellow.”

The delicious culinary British delights prepared by the British Club Social Committee included BBQ British sausages, homemade sausage rolls, Heinz baked beans, roast potatoes, spiral ham, pickled onions, and beetroot. The delectable desserts consisted of slices of the incredible anniversary/birthday cake and a selection of outstanding trifles!

Following the buffet, everyone enjoyed a trivia game organized by board members Michael Leesley (president) and John Spencer (vice president). The winner received everyone’s favorite, Cadbury chocolate bars.

Delightful photo ops added to the fun of the evening where attendees could have their photo taken wearing British props/masks.

At the end of the evening, Eileen and Mike were presented with an exquisite French cheese and wine basket.

As always, enjoying the camaraderie of members and friends, everyone agreed it was a splendid way to celebrate St. George’s Day and an amazing 20-year anniversary of the British Club!

Everyone thanked Margaret and Tom Somenske for hosting this special event and Social Committee Chair Ethel Willmot and members of the Social Committee for organizing a very enjoyable, memorable, fun event for the British Club.
