Ginger Riffel
The SaddleBrooke Tennis Club Board of Directors, TJ Duffy, Glen George, Bob Stocks, Kay Sullivan and Ginger Riffel, wanted to thank all the members (over 400), some of whom are new members and many of them volunteers, by throwing an All Member and Volunteer Appreciation Party. This was an undertaking headed by Kay Sullivan and her committee, Mary Hlusko, Pam Corrigan, Margrit Wehrli and Ginger Riffel. Invitations were sent and an article for the newspaper was published. As a result the STC held a blow-out cocktail party on the Tennis Center patio on Saturday, November 12 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.
The weather was perfect and over 180 STC members and guests were scheduled to arrive. Our volunteers, Joanie and Ernie Dragon, checked in the attendees with name tags they had prepared. Volunteers during 2016 had gold stars on their blue name tags and new members were recognizable with their red name tags. BOD members Bob and Glen were the awesome bartenders and TJ was the Master of Ceremonies. The club provided all the food and beverages.
What happens behind the scenes to make an event like this happen? Well, one needs organizational skills and attention to detail. Spreadsheets are great for that. The most important part is having great party committee members to jump in and say, “I can do that; I’ll get the balloons; I’ll write the name tags; I’ll inventory the paper goods, etc.” Then when the headcount is finalized, the team estimates how much wine, beer, meatballs, shrimp, cheese, crackers, chips and cookies to buy. What a fun trip to Costco it was, chauffeured by Ginger’s husband Rich. Good thing he had a big pick-up truck! Then on the day of the event, the beer and wine had to be iced, the meatballs cooked, tablecloths taped down and the patio cleared of all the furniture so that there would be room for all those attendees.
After the MC recognized all our new members and thanked all the people for making the STC such a great club, Debbie McGeehan asked for the microphone. She recognized and thanked TJ for all the new ideas and accomplishments he’s been a part of during his tenure as President for 2015 and 2016.
The SaddleBrooke Tennis Club Board of Directors wants to thank all the members who came to the party, helped make it a huge success and jumped in for the clean-up. Thank you, STC members; you are what make this such a great club!
