On July 26 the SaddleBrooke SBWGA-18 and the Lady Niners combined for a fun day of golf to benefit a cause dear to the hearts of many of us. The day started with golf – 64 ladies created their own foursomes and played their choice of nine or eighteen holes with a scramble format. The foursomes were made up of any combination of ladies from both leagues and any of their guests (handicaps not required!).
After golf the ladies went up to the Vistas Dining Room where they were met by an array of raffle prizes (for which they purchased many tickets) and then sat down to a delicious lunch. Next, Geri Sandilands welcomed everyone and thanked those who donated items and also her co-chairs Nancy Huffman and Barbara Johnson, as well as those ladies who volunteered to set up the room.
Twelve cancer survivors present were recognized and given flowers and then the prizes began. All participants’ names were placed in a basket and then drawn for hostess gifts. In keeping with the fun format of the game, scorecards had been placed in a basket and the winners were drawn and awarded candy. This was all followed by our big raffle drawing with five lucky winners. Both Geri and Nancy delivered very heart-warming and touching speeches which reminded all of us of how we are all in this fight together! All the proceeds from the day went to the U of A Cancer Center and the ladies are looking forward to reviving this tradition.
