The Republican Women of Pinal County will meet at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, March 15 in the SaddleBrooke One Clubhouse Coyote Room. Our guest speaker will be Dr. John McElroy. Dr. McElroy will speak about American history, the U.S. Constitution and some of the differences between the Arizona State Constitution and the U.S. Constitution. Everyone is welcome to attend.
John Harmon McElroy was born in a small glass-manufacturing town on the banks of the Allegheny River in western Pennsylvania and two of his ancestors fought for independence in the Revolutionary War. John is Professor Emeritus at the University of Arizona and previously taught at Clemson and the University of Wisconsin. John has authored four books on American cultural history; Benjamin Franklin and the Quaker Murders, Finding Freedom, American Beliefs, Divided We Stand and America’s Culture, Its Origins and Enemies.
John graduated from Princeton University and then spent two years in the U.S. Navy’s North Atlantic Fleet on a destroyer escort in the mid-Atlantic prior to taking a Ph.D. at Duke University. John has twice been appointed a Fulbright Professor of American Studies (in Spain and Brazil) and after teaching in Poland in 1981 he co-founded Solidarity Tucson. John and his wife, author Onyria Herrera McElroy, Ph.D., were married in Havana, Cuba in 1957. John and Onyria live in Tucson, Arizona and have four children, eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
