SaddleBrooke Health and Wellness and Sights ‘n Sounds for SaddleBrooke Seniors are sponsoring a three part seminar series. It will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday afternoons in the MountainView Ballroom West on January 23, February 20 and March 20. Save the dates! Much more information is available on the SB Seniors website under Coming Events. Here is the link: http://www.sbseniors.org/coming_events.html.
There will also be more information available in subsequent articles as we get closer to the dates. Here’s an overview to whet your interest. Note that parts of this have been presented before, especially Part 1 about The Ten early Warning Signs, but not the whole series.
As noted above, Part 1 will help you distinguish between typical senior moments we all experience and changes in behavior that could indicate a more serious problem. Early detection does matter since it can lead to early treatment that prolongs independent living. This workshop helps you understand the difference between age related memory loss and Alzheimer’s, what to do if someone has signs of the disease, the benefits of early detection, how to access available treatments and planning for the future.
Part 2 is The Basics: Memory Loss, Dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. The presentation will include information about symptoms and effects of Alzheimer’s, other types of dementia, how Alzheimer’s affects the brain, causes and risk factors, how to address a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s and much more.
Part 3 is focused on helping caregivers of those with early, middle or late stage Alzheimer’s. The odds are almost 100% that we all will either need or provide some kind of care in our lifetimes. Topics covered will include developing a care team, legal and financial planning, coping strategies, care and treatment options, communicating and connecting—you are not alone—and maximizing independence for as long as possible.
