A Winning Combination!

On Nov. 18, 76 players from the SaddleBrooke One Lady Niners golf league and the Verde Sputters women’s putting group teamed up for a fun (and chilly) tournament on the Catalina course. This is an annual event that encourages new friendships, builds putting skills, and gives those Sputters who don’t golf a chance to enjoy SaddleBrooke’s beautiful fairways.

As the sun tried its hardest to peek out among the gray and windy clouds, the Lady Niners advanced the ball onto the greens using a scramble format. Once there, Sputters were on the hot seat to putt the ball into the cup with the fewest strokes possible. Everyone on the team contributed to the recorded score.

Following the nine-hole round, players moved to the Vistas restaurant for a delicious, warm lunch and program. The fall-themed table decorations were festive and colorful (thanks to Carri Johnson and Heather Griffin), and many women gratefully helped themselves to hot coffee or tea to warm up.

A total of six teams earned prize money in the form of “credit book” to be used in the SaddleBrooke One Pro Shop. Winners in Flight 1 (three golfers and one putter) were as follows:

First place ($70 per team): Corinne Johnson, Liz Meisegeier, Mary Leversee, and putter Hazel Roper

Second place ($50 per team): Lori Ward, Maria Byers, Hedy Gryszan, and putter Karen Simmons

Third place ($30 per team): Terri Tindal, Shirley Morris, Karla Kincaid, and putter Star Williams

Winners in Flight 2 (two golfers and two putters) were as follows:

First place ($70 per team): Cindy Witt, Barbro Sultan, and putters Debbie Bornmann and Kathie Bigos

Second place ($50 per team): Susan Lucci, Cheryl Hays, and putters Kat Danner and Donna McPherson

Third place ($30 per team): Chris Crum, Vicki Long, and putters Carol Jones and Lynnea Gehring

Several other prizes were awarded during the program, including winners of cash ranging from $10 to $30 from raffle tickets sold and $25 gift cards to Bashas’, in honor of the annual Turkey Shoot, for hitting drives closest to the squiggly line painted on hole number 9.

Membership applications for the Lady Niners are on the bulletin board just outside of the SaddleBrooke One Pro Shop. For more information on joining the Verde Sputters, contact Lydia O’Connor at Lhds1017ger47@gmail.com or 507-421-5640.
