Once upon a time there was a village in Arizona called SaddleBrooke where there was an active MPLNiners golf league. A committee of seven was given the challenge of presenting a Christmas golf event followed by a luncheon. In the past, the event was called “Holly Jolly,” and they felt a new theme was needed. This golf event was scheduled to take place Dec. 2, 2025.
The committee, consisting of Co-chair Sue Wilson, Co-chair Michele Nordeman, Barbara Bloch, EJ Snearly, Janet Ekkert, Becky Lima, Marji Quire, Sandi Dickmann, and Ginger Cannon, got to work planning the activities and decorations.
A theme of “Christmas Around the World” was chosen, and the charity, Beads of Courage, completed the event.
The committee members each chose a country and decorated a table highlighting the Christmas traditions in those countries. The countries chosen were America, Mexico, Netherlands, Ireland, Russia, Italy, and Scotland. Each attending the event received a faux notebook passbook, and the committee folded napkins into Christmas trees.
Raffle tickets were sold, and a donation box was provided to collect monies for Beads of Courage.
Children who are diagnosed with a serious illness are supported by giving them a colorful glass bead to hold onto. The beads that are given help them cope with treatments and encourage them to stay strong. Each bead gives them a way to record, own, and tell their stories of courage.
The presentation of a check to Beads of Courage will follow. For more information on Beads of Courage, visit www.BeadsofCourage.org.
