3 Jacks and a Julie

We had so much fun dancing to 3 Jacks and a Julie at the last 50s and 60s Sock Hop, we will do it again! The night, January 14, was a rip roaring success. We fixed the sound problem from the first Hop. Did you know that sound waves bounce? One table will have great sound and then, five feet away, the sound will be different. Raising the speakers and adding extra speakers on tripods fixed the problem. The sound was not louder, it was crisper! From the first song the band played, to the last at 9:40 p.m. we had a great time dancing and listening to the songs of our youth. There were many Poodle skirts, letter sweaters and a few hippies, but there were just as many who came in today’s styles. Remember wearing our father’s shirts with jeans? Yep, there were some at the dance.
On March 1 MountainView Ballroom will be the site of the next 50s and 60s Sock Hop. There will be the same great band, 3 Jacks and a Julie—aka Wild Ride when they are playing Country music. This time there will be no food—well, a few M&Ms to keep our strength up. But there will be a cash bar, because our teenage dreams came true and we can now legally drink alcohol. Just a sip seams to relax our inhibitions and improve our dancing.
3 Jacks and a Julie will play many of our favorites from the 50s and 60s; The Everly Brothers, Elvis, Roy Orbison, the Beach Boys and Patsy Cline. The Band is sooo talented. I won’t rave; their music speaks for them. When they play Unchained Melody there isn’t a woman listening who doesn’t want to be up on the dance floor in her partner’s arms swaying to the music. It is one song guaranteed to have everyone out on the dance floor.
Tickets are on sale in the MountainView Office; they are $9.50 per person. Doors and cash bar will open at 6:00 p.m. and the band will start performing at 6:30 p.m. They will play until 9:30 p.m. Wear your Poodle skirt and saddle shoes or dress as we do today; come and listen to the band or come and dance. This promises to again be a very entertaining evening.
Then get ready for the last 50s and 60s dance of the season. It will be a Senior Prom on April 28! Oh yeah! We have planned a buffet with pork Milanese, roast turkey, mashed potatoes with gravy, green beans, tossed salad and one more veggie, carrot cake! Ladies we can dress as elegantly as we like and our escorts can dress—well, you decide. Each of us will be the Prom Queen with her King on this night. Return to those youthful days; let’s have fun at a Senior Prom for seniors! Tickets on sale in February.
