The Lords of the Links (MPMGA) and the Queens of the Course (MPWGA) were invited to participate in the annual Kings and Queens golf event held on Sept. 8, at MountainView Golf Course. It was the ladies’ turn to host this year’s combined Women’s and Men’s golf event, sponsored by Weathersby Windows and Doors and Desert Life Pharmacy. Kathy Hughes and Tana Lucy chaired the royal event with substantial support from Dave Schafer and Mary Kay Nordhill.
Court Jester, Mason Hage, presided over the golf tournament that included (16) foursomes of fair ladies and gentlemen competing in a step aside scramble. On Hole #2, it was “Knights to the Rescue” as all players received safe passage across the perilous ditch to hit their tee shots. On Hole #11, “Save the Damsel” allowed all players to bypass the treacherous landscape to tee off on safe ground over the ditch. Royal members of the court reported resplendent results including a number of birdies and some eagles because of these strategic modifications.
After the event, a glorious feast of hamburgers, chips, and an ice cream sundae bar was served. All noble participants received a bejeweled, specialty cookie, in the shape of a crown, created and baked by one of our residents. A “look under your seat” wine giveaway resulted in two bottles of wine being attained (as well as numerous chair tags being removed). And, raffle spoils included PGA Store gift cards, and MountainView/Preserve Pro Shop credit.
Her Majesty graciously advises that a return to this court is ordained for the 2027 golf season and will be chaired by the MPMGA royal assembly.
To great acclaim, we announce the Event winners (tie breakers per PGA rules)
