“Who let these guys umpire? Dennis Marchand and ?”
King Mitchell, Jr.
Well, softball fans of the Brooke, it’s deadline time here at Sept. 20 for the October issues of the Progress and Roundup so here’s the latest on the softballers from SBs south side.
Summer League Action
Well, the Summer League is “in the bag” as they say, although I have no idea who “they” are. Yep, the season wrapped on Sept. 18 and the softballers will take a 16 day break and be back at it for Fall league beginning Oct. 5.
Mondays this summer were the Recreational and Community leagues. In Rec, Debra Miller-State Farm took the title over Your CBD Store “handily” with a 5-1 record to the CBDers 1-5. Dave Latura took the batting title at .833 just squeezing out Rob Lowry at .800. In Community, Canine and Company similarly trounced Big Bear Garage Doors finishing with a 5-1 record to the Bears’ 1-5. For the Doggies, Peter Romeo led the league with an astounding 17 fer 19 and a .895 average. Len Gann tried to keep up and finished at .826 for the Bears.
On Tuesdays in the Competitive league, Bubb’s Grub had the championship “bagged” a couple weeks ago and cruised in with a 5-4 record to Cactus Overhead Garage Doors’ 4-5. With at least 20 at-bats, Mark Adolph led the league with a .806 average with Robin Kingsley going .774. In Community, Beyond Clean and Catalina Family Dental battled it out to the end with the Cleaners taking the last game and thus …. the title with a 5-4 record. Rick Buonarigo for the Cleaners went 40 for 46 and a .870 average! And two round-trippers as well. Rick was so hot, he could start a brush fire standing in a rock garden!
Sidewinder Wednesday had X-Pert Automotive cruise to a 7-3 record with Anne Glenn-Long Realty ending up on the opposite end at 3-7. Rob Lowry finished with a .750 average.
Thursday is Coyote with players 65 and over. However, the monsoons really jinxed this league as the teams only got 5 games in. The Moore Advantage Real Estate finished at 4-1 and Barron Electric at 1-4. Jack Hauschildt batted an astounding 16 fer 17 for a .941 average with 3 triples to boot!
Friday is Competitive only this Summer and Cleere Law Office cruised to the league title with a 7-2 record with Brittni-Gutman—All State Insurance ending up on the other end at 2-7. Buonarigo (Again?) batted .769 with Len Gann (Again?) leading the league at .789
That’s a Wrap!
