B’nai Midar: And if That Wasn’t Enough—We Need You!

Melanie Einbund

B’nai Midbar. Our board is very skilled, proactive and wishes to bring the best that we can be to our congregation and friends.

They can’t do it alone! Trust me, I know.

We need a “numbers” person. If you have a background as a CPA, accountant or financial guru we are hoping that you will offer your expertise and help our Treasurer and Finance person to work with our numbers, gather information and assist with the reporting of our financial health.

And more

The board has laid out an agenda of maintaining and growing our congregation. Should you have interest in helping either as a board member or with a project please contact Joy Erickson at infocbm18@gmail.com.

Seeking: Development experience is being sought to help us manage current programming and growth. Experience with educational programming, working with the board and clergy is desired. Organizational and administrative positioning is always desired.

The B’nai Midbar board is an active, energetic and dynamic group of persons with dynamic personal and professional backgrounds. Meetings and projects are vibrant resulting in teamwork, proficiency and results. If you like this type of environment and momentum than being a member of the B’nai Midbar is a position for you.

It is time for honey cakes! A tradition of giving honey cakes at the end of Rosh Hashanah day services is an event met with smiles and appreciation. We need a lead and bakers! We are seeking eight bakers to make 10, onepound honey cakes. Instructions, a recipe (You can use your own if you wish) pans and labels are given to the bakers. This year I hope that someone will be able to help me lead this event. It is a time of happiness and the sweetness of the honey cakes to take us forward to a Good and Sweet New Year. Please contact Melanie Einbund (meinbund@sbcglobal.net).

Back to the Future: Bonnie Lasky is the chair of our Nominating Committee. B’nai Midbar has grown rapidly over the past three years. While having our beginnings at SaddleBrooke we have ventured out to the Tucson Northwest community. We have answered the need and desire of many looking for a place of worship where they can practice their faith, customs, and traditions. To grow, thrive and continue on the path of inclusion with the opportunity to celebrate, practice, and learn from Jewish culture and religion in a welcoming and socially fulfilling environment we need you, our congregants, to help us. If you are so inclined, have questions and/or interest please contact Bonnie at bglasky@att.net. It would be wonderful if you would join us!

The Gift Continued with a new class! In case you missed, a lot of us gathered on June 1 to learn about the variety of care in Tucson. We learned about navigating the Continuum of Care strategies for choosing a variety of services from residential care and its eligibility to in-home services. Figuring out how to do it and understanding resources is a conundrum. We dove into palliative care and hospice care, their similarities and differences. Many thanks to Deb Seng of PCOA who led and guided us on this journey. Bonnie Lasky also told us that The Gift, an excellent course on guiding us through the essentials and needs of our aging and wishes. Contact Bonnie Lasky at bglasky@att.net for more information.

It’s a Mitzvah! With the High Holy Days approaching we are asking Congregants and guests to read passages, help on the Bimah and with the Torah. Leslie Weiss, lesweiss47@yahoo.com, is coordinating readings and those wishing to aid on the Bimah. Please reach out to her if you are interested.

An aside: In May, after visiting the United States, King Charles III was gifted a Challah at Golders Green. He was checking in on victims of an antisemitic stabbing attack. But of course he went to Grodz, a kosher bakery in London well known since 1888. There, children from the Jewish Day School gifted him a challah. King Charles and his challah left after the King spoke to several citizens affirming his government and its intention to “tackle antisemitism and ensure that all communities feel safe.”
