Jewish Friendship Group of SaddleBrooke

Marsha B. Mantykow

This has been a fun-filled season. We went off the reservation to the Gaslight Music Hall. We played Bingo and shared our culinary talents at our potluck. We gathered on Valentine’s Day for cocktails and conversation. We made children with cancer a little happier with our holiday gifts. Of course, the monthly men’s dinners and ladies’ coffees kept us together. Thank you to all our members for your support of the JFG. Watch for emails for gatherings during the summer.

April 2. Second Night Seder. SaddleBrooke One Vistas. Last month I promised a recap of what I was sure would be a wonderful night. Wonderful doesn’t come close to describing the night. Amazing. Spectacular. Stupendous. The dining room was filled with 98 people, Including members, friends, and family. Sharing the meaning of the occasion with our amazing Saddlebrooke community was nothing short of joyful. With each prayer, song, and reading we gave voice to our past and hopes for the future. An evening like this doesn’t happen without the efforts of many people. Thank you Sharon Hoff for coordinating the evening and all its moving parts. Thanks also to Steve Rosen for preparing a lovely service. It is not an easy task, given the complexity of a seder, especially one that includes the participation of current and new members as well as invited guests. Thanks to Carol and Mart Gordon for providing the seder plates and the haggadahs. A special thank you to both Susan Kravitz for her beautiful musical accompaniment and Seth Basker for adding meaningful poetry to our evening. And of course, Sandy Rosen for keeping all the balls in the air and her tireless devotion to the JFG.

Men’s dinner. April 16 and May 21 at 5:30 p.m. MountainView. We continue to acknowledge and appreciate the interest in these gatherings. We also appreciate each participant’s input on future topics. Contact Jeff Luftig at jeffreyluftig@gmail.com with any questions. Watch your emails for registration forms for each meeting.

Ladies coffees. The two final coffees for the season are in the books. Thank you to Sandy Basker for hosting the April 20 coffee and Carol Gordon for opening her home on May 7. Our sincere thanks for hosting these two lovely mornings. We will reconvene in October. But, it’s never too soon to volunteer for next season. Let me know your interest at marnes1@comcast.net.

Potluck. On April 28, at SaddleBrooke One Activity Center, we all had special permission to eat as if cholesterol, belly fat, and high blood pressure didn’t exist! Comfort foods like Mac and Cheese, meatloaf, and chicken pot pie were enjoyed. Watch for our recap next month.

As a strictly social club we welcome all our neighbors to join us.
