On St. Patrick’s Day eve the Verde Sputters SaddleBrooke One “crossed the Brooke” to Mountainview golf club to join the MountainView Lady Putters (MVLP) of SaddleBrooke TWO “on the green.” Both teams sported their club colors; however, Irish green was very much in evidence. There were leprechauns, headpieces, socks, earrings and necklaces adorning the putters, as well as a general theme of the day carried through the putting venue. At check-in each participant was given a nametag with a raffle ticket for the drawing to follow at the luncheon. Teams formed and welcomed. The putting began with the quote for the day, “May your putts be true and your luck even truer!”
Teams of two ladies from the Sputters and two ladies from MVLP competed for the prizes which were announced at the luncheon following the event in the ballroom of the Mountainview clubhouse. The décor in the ballroom continued the Irish theme with the tables beautifully decorated with green runners with gold Celtic knots, gold napkins, shamrocks and gold coins. There was a backdrop for photos depicting a rainbow with a pot of gold and a table of raffle prizes which would be the envy of the leprechauns themselves. A delicious meal of chicken taco salad and a delicious dessert bar were enjoyed by all as well as many enjoying Irish coffee among other beverages.
Tying for first place were putters from two teams. The winners sharing the cash prizes combined for first and second places were Ann Grover, Felice Moskowitz, and Sandy Ripley (Verde) and their team members Mary Riemersma, Pat Morris, and LeeAnn Andrade (MVLP), Sandy Veleton, EJ Snearly, Claire Baragona, and Pamela Partrick (MVLP), and Hazel Roper, and LaVonne Ashwood (Verde).
After photos of the winners and all the competing teams, raffle tickets were drawn and many participants walked away with lovely mementos of a fun, memorable event. New friendships were formed and all look forward to next year’s event.
