The SaddleBrooke Singles Club table was a busy one at the recent Recreation and Activities Fair at the MountainView ballroom. Vice President Laurie O’Toole and Anne Bowen, secretary, found that some people were drawn to a digital photo frame looping photos featuring group dinners, parties, and happy hours, while others were eager to take a membership brochure.
“We were pleasantly surprised by the number of people who stopped by asking for more information,” says Laurie. “After explaining that we are not a dating club, but a group of men and women now on our own who enjoy socializing, many folks took pamphlets that include an application.”
That it’s a fun group is easily verified every Friday night, year-round, at either SaddleBrooke One or SaddleBrooke TWO (depending upon whether it’s an odd or even month) where members meet for dinner and happy hour. Dinners are also at The Preserve every Friday night. Other activities include weekly Team Trivia, bocce, and a recent group outing to the Tucson Rodeo.
Potluck parties in private homes are always popular with the group. Recent occasions celebrated Halloween and New Year’s Day. A St. Patrick’s Day party, open to all members, will be held at Laurie O’Toole’s home on March 17.
“I love holiday parties and potlucks! Celebrating with friends makes the day so much more special,” says Anne. “Parties can be with a small group or the entire Singles Club. They are usually held in someone’s house, like the upcoming St. Patrick’s Day party, or at one of the clubhouses with dancing, like our annual pizza or Christmas party.”
Membership is open to any resident who is single but will also be considered for anyone whose spouse is living permanently in a long-term care facility.
