Our February program, “Venomous and Poisonous Animals of Arizona,” was presented by Sandy Reith, a volunteer and recent retiree from the Pima County Conservation Lands Resources. The talk was very informative and described the species of the poisonous and venomous spiders, snakes, toads, scorpions, insects, and lizards that we live with here in SaddleBrooke. Sandy also gave valuable information on the types of poisons these animals have and the effects of their bites, secretions, or stings. One hundred sixteen people attended the program.

The winner of this meeting’s raffle was Tom Weber who received a copy of the book 50 Common Reptiles and Amphibians of the Southwest.

Our field trip coordinator Kay Sullivan organized a docent-led tour of the University of Arizona Alfie Norville Gem & Mineral Museum located in the Historic Courthouse in downtown Tucson. Twenty-eight people attended the tour on Feb. 24 and had a wonderful time at this museum dedicated to educating about and preserving minerals from around the world but emphasizing those from Arizona and Mexico.

Our next program was on March 9 at 3:30 p.m. in the DesertView Theater. The topic of the presentation was “An Introduction to Historic Canoa Ranch.”
