The SaddleBrooke Activity Center was transformed into a vibrant “piazza” this February as the Italian Heritage Club hosted an unforgettable evening for more than 50 residents. The room was a sea of il Tricolore—the green, white, and red of the Italian flag—with classic Italian melodies providing a soundtrack to an evening centered on food, family, and friendly competition.
A Culinary Journey. The night opened with a massive potluck spread that would have made any Nonna proud. From artisan antipasti platters and savory pasta entrées to crisp salads and a dessert table, the meal was a true testament to the group’s shared culinary heritage.
The Main Event: Trivia & Tradition. The highlight of the night was a high-energy Italian Trivia challenge. Questions spanned history, engineering marvels, and modern Italian contributions in cinema and science. The room buzzed with laughter and lighthearted debates as tables vied for the top spot. Ultimately, the winners walked away with Italy-themed canvas totes and authentic amaretti cookies.
The most touching moment of the evening occurred at the large laminated map of Italy. New members were invited to “pin” their ancestral hometowns, leading to the incredible discovery that several neighbors share roots in the exact same villages and provinces.
Looking Ahead: The Art of the Pour. The club’s mission to celebrate “All Things Italian” continues on March 23 with an exclusive Italian Wine Tasting. This isn’t just a social sip; it’s an educational journey led by a club member holding advanced WSET (Wine & Spirit Education Trust) certification and a professional Italian wine designation. Guests will explore the distinct “terroir” of four different regions through a curated selection of wines.
