SaddleBrooke Democrat Announces State House Candidacy

Peter Bakke

We are proud to announce that SaddleBrooke resident and retired U.S. Air Force Colonel Holly Lyon has announced her Democratic candidacy for the Arizona State House in Legislative District 17. Lyon will run alongside current State Representative Kevin Volk, who is seeking re-election, and U.S. Marine Corps veteran Edgar Soto, a candidate for the Arizona State Senate.

Local supporters say they look forward to backing all three candidates in the upcoming election. They also encourage support for the re-election of top statewide candidates Katie Hobbs for Governor, Kris Mayes for Secretary of State, and Adrian Fontes for Secretary of State. Candidates for all offices will be invited to upcoming meetings. Watch for updates.

The SaddleBrooke Democratic Club’s March meeting was held on March 10 at 3:30 p.m. at the SaddleBrooke One Activities Center. The program featured several guest speakers:

• Jonathan Hill, candidate for Arizona Corporation Commissioner

• Linda Lyon, candidate for State Representative, who discussed an initiative aimed at increasing accountability in Arizona’s school voucher program

• Kym Olsen, speaking on behalf of Friends of Aphasia

• Kevin Greene of Stop Waste Tucson, who addressed zero-waste strategies designed to reduce waste, conserve resources, strengthen the local economy, and protect public health and the environment

Club members were encouraged to contact the Pinal County Board of Supervisors regarding a proposed plastics recycling facility in Eloy. Opponents cite concerns about air pollution in Pinal County, which already experiences higher-than-average levels of unhealthy air quality.
