Woodworkers Club

Bob Hutton

There is no woodworking shop in SaddleBrooke. Ask around, and you’ll find that easily debunked. They’re everywhere. In garages and casitas near and far, you will find creative people enjoying the hobby, from making simple birdhouses to making cabinets. Though no facility is offered by our HOA, our craft is widespread. Some work with only the most basic tools, but if you see what they produce, you would not know that. Though challenging to work at such a restricted, personal level, we continue to enjoy expanding our skills and creating cherished memories for our friends and loved ones.

The SaddleBrooke Woodworkers Club is a group of friendly men and women who meet once a month to share ideas and compare notes. At most meetings, we have a presentation by a member of a technique or skill they enjoy. Many of us then attempt that new technique and often find a new passion. In October Mark Erickson showed and described his woodcarving works of art. Also a woodcarver in addition to his other talents, Mark’s masterpieces truly look like they could fly away.

Other recent classes and demonstrations have been finger-jointing, box construction, wood finishing, sharpening and using scrapers, plus other skills. We’d love to welcome you as a member ($10 per year!), but remember, our meetings, classes, and demos are open to all SaddleBrooke residents, regardless of their membership.

We also accept requests (within limits due to our meager personal facilities) for repairs of cherished items of our neighbors. Often, donations are offered for work done, which we gratefully accept. We hope to offer a busy shop of willing helpers for our community when a facility is built to fully utilize our offer.

If you enjoy discovering like this, we welcome you to our meetings on the first Tuesday of each month in the Cactus Room in the SaddleBrooke TWO MountainView complex. Our website sbwoodworkers.org is relatively new and evolving. Contact us at sb.wood.workers@gmail.com.
