How MV Lady Putters Define ‘Under Par’

When a golfer is invested in her game, whether it is a full round of 18 holes or a Monday morning putting round with the MountainView Lady Putters (MVLP), she would be delighted with a score under par. For MVLP ladies, under par for 18 holes of putting equals a score below 36. This is a challenge for nearly all MVLP members.

The MVLP organization recognizes the challenge of recording a score under par by awarding a monthly Roadrunner Award to the woman with the lowest average gross score. While an award winner’s score is rarely under par by definition, it is consistently below a score of 40. A few women who regularly receive this honor are Kay Tomaszek, Marcia Munich, and Pat Wells. But none stands out like Maria Miller who recently scored an average low gross of 35.8 during December of 2024. While these ladies’ endeavors on the putting green are exceptional, they also exhibit how seldom a score under par is achieved.

Aside from golf terminology, the term “under par” means below average or not as expected. MVLP members who are under par according to this definition are also recognized. Peg Senst describes her Sunshine Committee responsibility this way: “[We] recognize those members who at times are faced with accidents, illness, surgery, or sadness.” Peg, along with committee member Karel Titone, are prepared to send a card, make a phone call, or send flowers to a member who is reported as under par.

Peg and Karel fulfill their responsibility as volunteers in MVLP, as they work together to see that members receive a thoughtful gesture when needed. Karel, a member of MVLP for 11 years, and Peg, a member for three years, come prepared each Monday morning with a packet of cards, stamps, and pens so members can share personal greetings with under par members in a timely manner. Karel shares, “Being a (MVLP) member along with so many wonderful women, all so kind and special, makes my heart smile.” Without a doubt, the work Peg and Karel do on the Sunshine Committee brings smiles to MVLP members who need an extra bit of sunshine in their lives also.

As members arrived at the monthly business meeting and luncheon on Sept. 8, which was held in the MountainView ballroom, piano music was provided by Jo Ann Wilbour. MVLP member and Gold Sponsor Danielle Schamp provided information and statistics regarding her business as a realtor in SaddleBrooke.

In early September Linda Edwards, Charity Committee co-chairperson, announced that fundraiser receipts for the Mammoth-San Manuel Unified School District have reached nearly $2,500. Donations for pre-k graduation caps and gowns, the Teacher Educational Fund, and Middle School Life Skills Training will be accepted through the end of October.

SaddleBrooke ladies who are looking to liven up their Monday mornings are invited to join MV Lady Putters anytime. No golf experience is necessary. For more information, visit the website mvlputters.com.
