A longstanding tradition for the Verde Sputters is the annual Summer Fun Night. It’s a chance for members who stay in SaddleBrooke over the summer to get together with family and friends, play some games, and enjoy great conversation over a tasty meal.

On Aug. 10 nearly 60 putters and their guests gathered in the refreshingly cool Vistas restaurant to enjoy an evening of activities with the theme “Wild World of Sports.” The Organizing Committee consisting of Joni Campel, Debbie Flato, Donna Gruninger, Jan Haney, Carol Jones, Jean Matheson, Hazel Roper, and Sheelagh Simpson went all out to create 12 sports-related games to challenge our energetic foursomes. The top three teams with the lowest average scores won SaddleBrooke gift cards.

It was difficult—but not impossible—to get a low score by:

• Landing a beanbag on the home plate of a baseball diamond,

• Putting a golf ball into a red beverage cup nestled in a hockey net,

• Getting a ringer on the horseshoe toss,

• Rolling a race car down a track and having it stop at just the right place,

• Paddling a ping pong ball into a cup, and more.

After the games, everyone enjoyed a hamburger buffet and platters of chocolate chip cookies that somehow wanted to stick together. No matter! A great time was had by all.

The Verde Sputters play on Monday mornings on the main putting green outside the SaddleBrooke One clubhouse. Sign-in during the summer months starts at 8:30 a.m., and putting is from 9 to 10 a.m. Due to course maintenance, putting will not occur for four weeks between Sept. 22 and Oct. 13.
