Unit Happenings – August 2025

Unit Two Happy Hour at the Agave

On July 17 Unit Two hosted another Happy Hour at the SaddleBrooke One Agave. There were more than 32 attendees. It was a great time as we met up with our neighbors and got to know more of them. It was hamburger night, and we had a lot of hungry people, so we enjoyed our burgers and drinks as well as catching up with what was happening with our friends and neighbors.

We are planning a Pool Party Happy Hour at the SaddleBrooke One pool/RoadRunner Grill on Aug. 18 from 4 to 7 p.m., so watch your mail tube for more information.

See ya there!

Unit 6 Happy Hour

Lorie Gregor

On July 20 the sun was shining and the misters were on! Twenty-five residents of Unit 6 gathered at the RoadRunner Grill for drink, eats, and camaraderie! Jokes and laughter were heard, and hugs and smiles were shared. Two lucky winners shared a 50/50 raffle. Everyone enjoyed themselves so much that we decided right then and there to make it a monthly event! The extra bonus was, instead of sending staff home due to the lack of business, the RoadRunner Grill had a big boon to their Sunday afternoon!

Kerry Gille and Sven and Sharon Sandblom got to know each other at the Unit 14 cocktail party.

Unit 14 Happy Hour at The Preserve

Karen Gille

Neighbors from Unit 14 met on The Preserve patio for a cocktail party on July 16. We had a very good turnout of 35 guests. It was good to see familiar faces and meet new neighbors. The Preserve patio misters and the $5 margaritas kept everyone cool.

If you would like to be added to the email list for future events, please contact Betsy Clark at bk.clark@hotmail.com. Upcoming events include additional cocktail parties, a food truck party, a casino night, and a Christmas dinner with dancing.

Units 15 and 17 Gather for ‘Sunset Serenade’ Under the Stars

Kelli Beasley

On the evening of July 12, residents of Units 15 and 17 came together for a magical summer gathering called Sunset Serenade, a name that perfectly captured the spirit of the event.

Hosted at the beautiful home of Charli Shaulis and her beloved dog Ruby, the party welcomed more than 40 neighbors for an evening of fun, food, and music. Guests were treated to an impressive outdoor setting, complete with abundant seating, a peaceful pond with a cascading waterfall, misters to keep the desert heat at bay, and sweeping views of the surrounding mountains. A grandstand provided the perfect stage for the evening’s entertainment.

The highlight of the night was live music by Dan Devou, a talented singer, songwriter, and guitarist who also resides in Unit 15. Dan recently performed to acclaim at the DesertView Performing Arts Center’s variety show, and his music once again struck a chord with the crowd. His performance brought everyone together in laughter, song, and shared appreciation for the SaddleBrooke lifestyle.

Thanks to the Unit 15 Social Committee for organizing this memorable evening of appetizers, refreshments, and neighborly fellowship. Sunset Serenade was truly a celebration of community and connection.

Unit 21 4th of July Pancake Breakfast

Dana Eckhardt

Unit 21 residents gathered to celebrate the annual 4th of July Pancake Breakfast. Everyone was in festive attire, and the volunteers decorated the Activities Center so that it sparkled and crackled. Pancakes, sausage, fruit salad, coffee, and juice were served by the many volunteers. Bloody Marys and mimosas were served, as usual, by Dede and Dana. This event is in its 10th year and the second year of being chaired by Linda and John Ansay, amazing hosts who did a great job of organizing the whole affair. Thank you for making Unit 21 the best in the west!

Unit 21 Ladies Luncheon Pool Party

Dana Eckhardt

The July Ladies Luncheon is always a hit. Although it’s the height of the scorching-hot season, Silke Bender’s pool is always a reprieve. This year there was amazing food, which included salads, desserts, and charcuterie boards. Host Silke and her volunteers made the whole event feel very special. A wonderful array of women joined in the festivities and floated in the pool with wine and sangria. It was great to see all the ladies bring their gorgeous selves and tremendous personalities. Unit 21 is really a fabulous place to live!

Cheers to Community! Unit 36 Orange Hosts Spirited July Happy Hour

Helen Amelsberg

Summer socializing was in full swing on July 17 as approximately 28 neighbors from Unit 36 Orange gathered for a lively and laughter-filled happy hour at the home of Bev and Cliff Frazee.

With their beautiful home and welcoming spirit setting the tone, the Frazees hosted a wonderful gathering that brought together both familiar faces and new residents. Neighbors arrived bearing their beverages of choice and an impressive variety of appetizers, from homemade dips and finger foods to chicken wings, pizza, chips, and an array of desserts, all of which quickly disappeared.

The event offered a perfect midsummer pause—a chance to relax, reconnect, and recharge with the people who help make our community feel like home. It was heartwarming to see new neighbors being welcomed so easily, conversations flowing freely, and laughter echoing well into the evening.

These happy hours are becoming a favorite tradition in Unit 36 Orange, thanks in large part to the simplicity of the format and the generosity of neighbors who volunteer their homes. All it takes is the use of a living room or outdoor space. The rest is a delicious, social, and low-key gathering that builds community, one glass and plate at a time.

A big round of applause goes to Bev and Cliff for opening their doors and making everyone feel right at home. Your hospitality set the tone for a truly enjoyable evening!

Interested in hosting a future happy hour? We’d love to keep the tradition going! Reach out to Kathy, your Unit 36 rep, by email at unit36orange@gmail.com if you’d like to put your home on the calendar. It’s just two hours, and guests bring the food and drinks. It couldn’t be easier!

Here’s to neighbors, new friendships, and many more happy hours ahead!
