Wonderful World of Waltz

Everybody’s on the floor.

Judy Saks

The waltz is an elegant ballroom dance with origins dating back to 18th century Europe. It’s characterized by its smooth, flowing movements and a distinctive 3/4 time signature, where dancers move in a one-two-three rhythm. It’s a popular choice for weddings and social dancing because of its timeless beauty and ease of learning for beginners. This is one dance you should have in your repertoire, and in May you will have the opportunity to learn the waltz from our resident professional instructors Dale and Ann Pizzitola. Beginner classes are held on Sundays from 3 to 4 p.m. and Tuesdays from 5 to 6 p.m. in the MountainView ballroom. Intermediate classes are held on Sundays from 4 to 5 p.m. and Tuesdays from 6 to 7 p.m., also in the MountainView ballroom. Both the Beginner and Intermediate classes will start on Sunday, May 4, and registration is required. Sign up on our website sbballroomdance.com or send an email to countmein@sbballroomdancecom. Classes are free for members, and a non-member may attend one free class to make sure it’s a fit before joining.

Novice Dance Program

New to dancing? Haven’t danced in a while? Join our free Novice program, and Dale and Ann will have you up and dancing with ease. Novice classes are held at 4 p.m. in the Mariposa Room at DesertView. The focus will be on hustle on Wednesday, May 7, and on foxtrot on Wednesday, May 14. A Novice Review Session will be held on May 28. These sessions are designed to give novice dancers a supportive environment and focus on the dances covered in the novice classes that month. Please register for class at countmein@sbballroomdance.com. No prior dance experience is necessary, you don’t need a partner, and you don’t need to be a member to attend!
