The MountainView/Preserve Women’s Golf Association held their 2024 Presidents Cup Golf Tournament on April 2 and 3. Overall winner is the player with the best two-day low net total. Last year’s winner Ann Martin was honored with organizing this year’s successful event sponsored by Pride Mechanical.

Day one began in cool, partly cloudy conditions on the MountainView Course. Despite a steady weekend of heavy rain, the course drained nicely. Due to recent renovations, only the back nine was open, so it was played twice.

Day one net results were close!

1st at 70: Deb Anderson

2nd, five-way tie at 71: Barbara Sullivan, Cathy Quesnell, Jeana Hodges, Carolyn Harville, Connie Plapinger

3rd, tie at 72: Aleta Rosentha, Corky Bosch

4th, three-way tie at 73: Tina Donovan, Donna Watson, Judy Grow

Day two competition at The Preserve Golf Course was warmer, with some standing water in the bunkers. Overall conditions were good. Deb Anderson managed Closest to the Pin on holes 4 and 11 and birdied both. However, her combined net total left her two strokes behind Jeana Hodges and Cathy Quesnell. Hodges and Quesnell both shot a 71 (day one) and 72 (day two), for a total net of 143. This meant they were going to a sudden death playoff on The Preserve Course. Tee off started on hole 1 (a par 4). Hodges landed her drive into the left bunker and then scrambled to make a 5, tying Quesnell. They both bogeyed hole 2 (a par 4). And on hole 3 (a long par 5) Hodges just missed a putt for a 6, giving Quesnell the win.

Hodges was described as “slow and steady” throughout the event, never really getting out of sync. However, she was understandably a bit nervous going into the playoff. When asked if there were any stressful moments, Quesnell commented, “There were many. Every shot, I needed to keep my eye on the ball, swing easy, let the club do the work, and I was always hoping the ball got in the way of a good swing. Oh my, the playoff holes were another higher stress level. I don’t remember much, because my heart was pounding pretty hard and I thought I almost passed out a few times, but I managed to hang in there. There were many competing golfers that hung around to watch the three playoff holes, and a big thank you for that. Great job to Jeana who fought hard.”

An awards luncheon was held following the event on The Preserve patio where a delicious salad and chocolate-raspberry cake were served.
