Julie Adamen and her husband moved to SaddleBrooke in October of 2023. She grew up in Palm Springs, and she cannot remember a time when she couldn’t swim.
Julie swam for an age group team from 10 to 12 years old but dropped out and simply swam in backyard pools with friends after that. She started lap swimming about 13 years ago when she realized she needed to do something about her physical fitness. Julie loves the challenge of swimming, “But mostly, I love the people!” She feels there is a wonderful sense of camaraderie within the SaddleBrooke Swim Club. Julie believes the best part about swimming for exercise and fitness is, “Nothing hurts when you get out of the pool.”
Julie’s goals for herself are to stay fit the rest of her life, to get technically better in the various swim strokes, and to contribute to the club as a volunteer. She really likes the breaststroke and is working to become more proficient with the help of the club’s coaches. Julie emphasizes that the people in the club are caring, motivational, highly knowledgeable, and always ready with advice and/or encouragement.
Swimming has enabled Julie to lose 35 pounds, and she feels she is in the best physical shape of her life at the age of 65. Swimming has become an integral part of her life. Having swum by herself for fun for 12 years, she can’t believe how much more enjoyable it is to swim with others who are like-minded about swimming and fitness.
Julie recommends the SaddleBrooke Swim Club and encourages anyone interested in friendship, solidarity, fitness, and just plain fun to come and swim with the club at any one of the many practices available at the DesertView pool.
If you would like to join Julie and her new friends in the Swim Club, feel free to try a few workouts at no cost. Swimmers of all abilities are welcome, and many time slots are offered several days per week.
