Verde Sputters April Update

BK Koch

April showers bring May flowers, but it doesn’t bring golfers and Sputters. On April 1, with the rain, rain, rain, 48 Verde Sputters had an early luncheon. The committee members of Hazel Roper, Karen Taylor, Nancy Bowersock, Kathie Roberts, and Sandy Ripley did beautiful flower centerpieces on each table. Debbie Van Berkom won the free lunch.

Lydia O’Conner is holding “office” hours on Mondays by the sign-in desk to collect your dues for 2024. If you joined in May of 2023, your dues carried through to the end of May of 2024. Your current dues will be $40 for Annual members and $20 for Social members through to December, 2024. If you have any questions, Lydia will be happy to answer them for you. On April 8 our course setter-uppers Marilyn Palatas, Sue Ryan, and Janet Knowles had a fun time playing their April Fools’ joke on the putting green: cups covered over in Saran wrap, $100 certificates in the money hole bags, and getting the ball down a narrow chute, to name just a few. These shenanigans did not stop Ellane Jepson from getting the lowest score of 36. A star is coming your way, Hazel Roper and Kathy Schulz. Each got a 37, and Cathy Howard got a 38. Of the 48 members, 43 ladies got a total of 67 holes-in-one. Those five who didn’t, we know you’re saving yourself for next week. Leading off with three holes-in-one are Debbie Flato, Ellane Jepson, Judie Knapp, Janet Knowles, Virginia LaBar, and Kathy Schulz. Following with two holes-in-one are Carol Aeschliman, Maggie DeBlock, Jay Dunn, Mary Halverson, Carolyn McLean, Laurie Miller, Shauna Rand, Sandy Ripley, Ann Rezich, Hazel Roper, Lana Steinert, and Mary Vandermast. Carolyn McLean, Hazel Roper, Mary Halverson, and Kathie Schulz all got a hole-in-one on the money holes. There were also 25 ladies who got a hole-in-one! These ladies are just getting too good!

On April 15, 49 members, along with two guests, made their way around the green on Monday and did well enough to get 38 holes-in-one, along with four members who got the low score of 39. These fine ladies were Judie Knapp, Opal Larkin, Sue Ryan, and Vicki Wermager who will be getting her star. Our only member with three holes-in-one was Carol Ryan. Reba Johnson, our newest member, got two holes-in-one, along with Julie Long, Laurie Miller, Shauna Rand, Sue Ryan, and Pam Young. There were 22 ladies who got a hole-in-one.

On April 22, 44 members and two guests made the rounds of the putting green, with Maggie DeBlock having the lowest score of 38. She edged out Elaine Ackerman and Debbie Van Berkom who both got a 39. Nice job, ladies! Maggie DeBlock went home with money in her pocket, being the only money hole winner. Debbie Flato and Marilyn Palatas each got two holes-in-one. Not to be left out, 19 ladies got a hole-in-one.
