The women of WOOO (Women On Our Own) celebrate our own strengths and individualities on a personal basis, and these attributes are what our organization promotes, supports, and honors with each and every activity offered in our calendar of events.
None of these many WOOO activities celebrates this in a more joyful way than our monthly potlucks held at a member’s SaddleBrooke home. Each potluck has a theme, chosen by the hostess, and the evening centers around that theme. Our most recent potluck’s theme was “Favorites,” which led participants to prepare a favorite dish. Now, if a favorite dish is a wonderful petite filet mignon, juicy hamburger, or oysters on the half shell, well, that won’t be on the table at a WOOO “Favorites” potluck. But salads, desserts, casseroles, and pizzas find a place at the table.
After dinner, the WOOO women at the March potluck were asked to name their favorite activity as a child and then their favorite activity as an adult. Ahhh, reflection—what we learn not only about others but about ourselves! Answers varied from riding horses when not doing farm chores, receiving first art supplies, playing street games, fishing with family, first library card at age 4, summer night badminton, and finding a used table and chairs. Attendees shared these points in our lives and, in some cases, found what might have shaped our lives into where we find ourselves today.
If you are a single woman in SaddleBrooke who is not in a committed relationship, consider checking into the many events and activities offered through WOOO. You will find wonderful conversation, laughter, support, friendship, and many opportunities to stay active and involved as we enjoy this wonderful journey of life.
