Joe “Fast Eddie” Giammarino
The Pool Players of The Brooke (PPB) would like to thank Quail Creek (QC) Billiards Club and their members for the friendly competition and camaraderie. Thanks also go to Tony Cardillo, captain of the PPB Travel Team, who set up this match. On Oct. 28 at 9 a.m., the PPB hosted the Quail Creek Billiards Club at the beautiful Catalina Recreation Center’s Billiards Room for an 8-Ball Team Challenge on our brand-new, 9-foot, Diamond Pro-Am pool tables. Thank you, SaddleBrooke One! The PPB team consisted of Dominic “The Doctor” Borland/Tony “The Snake” Cardillo, Joe “Fast Eddie” Giammarino/Dick Dunbar, Randy “Thin Man” Smith/Dave Parker, and Phelps L’Hommedieu/Jack “Crash” Hoverter.
The format was as follows: Each of the PPB teams would play each of the QC teams three games of 8-Ball, with each game counting as one point for the winning team. There were a total of 48 points in the match. This match was for the bronze traveling plaque, which QC has held since Oct. 29, 2022.
In the first round, the PPB was on fire, and they won the round by a lopsided 10-2 score. The second round was a little different, as the QC club turned it around and outscored the PPB by an 8-4 score. After the second round, the PPB was ahead 14-10. The third round also went to the QC club, this time by a 7-5 score, which put the score at PPB 19 and QC 17. The final round was a carbon copy of the third round, with QC winning it by a 7-5 score, making the final score QC 24, PPB 24. Ouch! QC retains the bronze traveling plaque because, in a tie, the owner of the plaque keeps the bronze traveling plaque. The good news is that we had the opportunity to compete with our friends from Quail Creek Billiards Club again.
After the match, we ventured over to SaddleBrooke’s Vistas dining room for a delicious lunch and some trash talk with the QC Billiards Club members. What a great way to spend a Saturday in SaddleBrooke! Rack ‘em up!
