Health Night Out is honored to present Allan Anderson, MD, medical director and geriatric psychiatrist at Banner Alzheimer’s Institute, to the SaddleBrooke community, and we welcome his presentation at the DesertView Theatre on Monday, Nov. 27, at 7 p.m.
The November program at SaddleBrooke’s Health Night Out will focus on the state-of-the-art treatment of patients with cognitive issues caused by Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, and dementia with Lewy bodies.
Dr. Anderson is the medical director of the Toole Family Memory Center at Banner Alzheimer’s Institute in Tucson, Ariz. His team has conducted several clinical trials in Alzheimer’s disease involving both treatment and prevention.
The team of clinicians and researchers led by Dr. Anderson is committed to providing the best care for patients who have dementia, as well as their families. Dr. Anderson is a board-certified geriatric psychiatrist who has worked in the field of dementia care for most of his career.
He has been active in the American Association for Geriatric Psychiatry (AAGP), serving on the board of directors as secretary-treasurer, and in 2011 and 2012 as president of AAGP. In 2014 he received the AAGP Clinician of the Year award. He has had an active interest in providing a comprehensive approach to dementia care and was very excited to come to Tucson to accept his current role with Banner Alzheimer’s Institute. Prior to this, he was employed as the Vice President of Dementia Care at the Copper Ridge Institute in Maryland. While there, he had an academic appointment at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and worked on clinical research trials with Hopkins’ dementia specialists.
He has an appointment in the Department of Neurology and Psychiatry at the University of Arizona as a clinical assistant professor. He is a Distinguished Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and a Distinguished Fellow of the AAGP.
