The Roundtable is excited to present Chris Wilson who will talk on Operation Barbarossa, Germany’s invasion of Russia on June 22, 1941. While the Germans initially made huge advances into Russia and took thousands of prisoners, the operation eventually led to a catastrophic defeat for the Wehrmacht and arguably was the major turning point of the war in Europe.
Chris’ talk will be on Thursday, Jan. 13, at 1 p.m. in the MountainView Ballroom.
From Chris: “Operation Barbarossa was the largest military operation in the history of the world. What was happening on the Eastern Front before and after D-Day? Barbarossa was war on a scale never seen before. This lecture will be a brief introduction to the German invasion of the U.S.S.R., including the major battles, sieges, and generals involved. Historical context and events leading up to the invasion will be discussed as well as what happened after the Soviets defeated Hitler. A complete bibliography of books and movies will be provided.”
Chris Wilson is a college instructor in biology at the University of Arizona with a lifelong interest in World War II. Chris has done extensive research on the subject.
