Unit 25 Celebrates Oktoberfest
Ron Mazurek
Over 35 members of Unit 25 got together at the HOA1 tennis pavilion on Oct. 24 to celebrate the annual German festival. With the threat of COVID finally subsiding, more folks are getting comfortable with getting together to socialize and have a good time together. The tennis pavilion was buzzing with all the chatter of people catching up with one another. There was a lot of energy in the air! Caryl Dowell and her husband, Tom, showed up dressed in German costume, and Caryl provided great entertainment with her accomplished skill set on her accordion, playing a well-rounded selection of folk songs and other musical melodies. While everyone brought their favorite adult beverages, an Oktoberfest feast of brats and sauerkraut, beef brisket, German potato salad, coleslaw, and apple crisp was provided, catered in from Bubb’s Grub in Catalina. Everyone is now looking forward to the next Unit 25 event!
Unit 49 Holds 10th Annual Moonlight Putting Event
Diane Marchand
Under a not-quite-full moon, 32 residents of Unit 49 celebrated a glorious fall evening with dinner and ice cream bars at the Mesquite Grill—so good to be back there! Then we were off to Moonlight Putting under the stars, always a fun event. Golfers and non-golfers brought their flashlights, putters, and glow balls to attack the green. Each hole was lit with glow sticks, and the players wore red, white, and yellow glow necklaces, so as not to trip over each other. Lots of laughing and groaning ensued as the teams went from hole to hole, trying to sink the ball in one stroke. Mostly, that didn’t happen, but everyone had a great time. Congratulations to Dave Corrigan, who had the winning low score and the most holes-in-one! He won a bottle of wine for his skill. All in all, it was a wonderful evening with our SaddleBrooke neighbors.
