MountainView Bridge Club

Although the month of March brought many cancellations due to the coronavirus, it started with a high-energy regional tournament that gathered bridge players from all around the country in Tucson.
Our bridge club added another Life Master to the list, making that a total of three members who have achieved that level within the first three months of the year. That’s a great accomplishment for our little group.
Although we couldn’t play bridge at the MountainView site or other clubs in Tucson for most of the month, some of us met at homes for cozy, four-person games. Others played bridge online. The ACBL suggested checking with online games for master points at BridgeBaseOnline, Funbridge.com, or OKbridge. Fees vary by site. You can also play online just for fun or play to support our club. BridgeBase Online gives instructions. It was also a good time to review bridge conventions and read the Bridge Bulletin, containing articles for people of all levels.
In a recent issue, Jerry Helms suggested, “Look for reasons to bid before settling for an excuse to pass.” However, in competitive auction, a pass doesn’t necessarily deny values. Your partner might take action and you’ll get a contract.
The Tucson sectional tournament scheduled for April 16 through 19 has been cancelled.
Check www.bridgewebs.com/mountainview to see when our club opens again. The games will be every Tuesday and Friday from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m.
Keep well.

“I wouldn’t mind being in jail if I had three cellmates who were decent players and who were willing to keep the game going 24 hours a day.” – Warren Buffett, describing his love of the game of bridge.
Bridge is the world’s most popular card game, enjoyed every day by millions of people. It is played in private homes, local clubs, and even great assembly halls by regular folks, famous celebrities, and world leaders.
The newly created NW Tucson Bridge Club is located at 1171 E. Rancho Vistoso Blvd. The club offers a comfortable playing environment and affable, outgoing players of all skill levels. If you’re an experienced bridge player, join our open games three afternoons a week, where you will compete with players of your skill level, including some of the best bridge players in the city. If you’re just learning the game, the club offers novice and limited point games, where you will meet and compete with players of your own skill level.
If you have never played bridge or haven’t played for years and need a refresher, or simply want to expand your skill, the club offers bridge instruction. Our talented instructors will help you develop and hone your skills. We also offer a Play and Learn session on Friday mornings.
Currently, we offer Beginning Bridge, the “Two Over One, Game Force” bid system, and the Techniques of Play and Defense.
These classes are in progress and will be repeated later this year. We also offer various single session lessons periodically.
If you have questions, check our website at https://www.bridgewebs.com/nwt/ or call the club at 520-447-5724.
