Guests attending the USO Canteen party stepped back in time as soon as they arrived at the home of Dan and Anna Marie Marsh who hosted this unique Treats and Talents Auction event along with Dave and Joanne Thomas, Gus and Karen Pachis and Bob and Linda Delaskey. The hosts, along with the performers, were all attired in period clothing and they mingled with the people from several different SaddleBrooke units as they enjoyed heavy appetizers and libations while Dan Marsh played some of the 1940s Hit Parade tunes.
The highlight of the evening was the performance, beginning with Debbie Gryniewicz who sounded just like Rosemary Clooney. Next, Dan and Anna Marie Marsh, accompanied by Joanne Thomas, danced the Jitterbug and they were great! Then the Andrews Sisters plus one took the stage. Eileen Halk, Marsha Munich, Mary Jo Swartzberg and Dee Zellinger sang Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy, followed by Don’t Fence Me In, Rum and Coca Cola, Bell Bottom Trousers, and When the Lights Go On Again completed their repertoire. They then led all guests in singing God Bess America.
And there was more to come! Dan Marsh and Joanne Thomas played boogie woogie piano and Gus Pachis as Bob Hope entertained us with a few good jokes and Hope’s traditional salute to the troops. It was a fun evening and yet another example of a great Treats and Talents Auction event. We appreciate the hosts, performers and guests’ support for the auction which donates money raised to a variety of worthy charities benefitting children and families.
