Those of you who have attended the SaddleBrooke Arts and Crafts Fair over the past several years have no doubt noticed that in conjunction with the fair, we also hold an auction of various artisans’ works. To be sure, auctions are fun with the anticipation of seeing if you have won any of the prizes. However, this auction serves another higher purpose— the proceeds from the auction go towards a worthy cause. We all know that when school systems have to cut back on their budgets, one of the first things to go is the Arts program. The Arts and Crafts Fair Committee recognize this situation and decided to do what we can to give some aid to those schools so they can at least afford supplies for any after school program they might be able to provide.
Marcia Schima, our Arts and Crafts Fair Committee Raffle Coordinator, contacted Darlene Cavanaugh (Oracle’s Mountain Vista K-8 school librarian) to arrange to make the donation. Much to our delight, she discovered that the Mountain Vista School will have a full-time art teacher in the fall, Jose Cardona! We are so happy to hear this good news, and we were doubly glad to be able to give them a donation to help purchase necessary supplies. Marcia and our Arts and Crafts Fair Committee Chair, Mark Erickson, went up to the school to present the check to Darlene. With the money raised from the fall 2018 and spring 2019 raffles, plus matching funds from the fair committee, we were able to hand over a check for $1000!
The fair committee wishes to thank all the artisans who donated items to the raffle, as well as all those who purchased raffle tickets so that we could make this donation to the children at Mountain Vista School. After all, among these children could be quite a few budding artists and we could be helping to make their development possible!
