Unit 17 Halloween happenings

The Halloween Party has been a fun tradition in Unit 17 for about 20 years. And the costumes get more outstanding each year. After our pizza supper, we chose Patrick and Sandra Pollencheck as Best Couple; Chris Cochran had Best Men’s costume and Cindy Burnside had Best Woman’s. Ray Kump won the 50/50 Raffle. After a quick round of Bingo, we finished off the night with an array of ice cream, cookies and cupcakes. Many thanks to the Social Committee and many others who helped make this another outstanding event.
On Monday, December 10, we had our Unit 17 Christmas Caroling and Hors d’oeuvres Party. The Hors d’oeuvres Party, at the home of Gary and Alison Luster, began at 5:30 p.m. Carolers met for warm-up at Betsy Lowry’s starting at 4:00 p.m. under the leadership of Anne Movalson.

Unit 24 welcome back party

It was a warm sunny afternoon on October 28 when 90 residents of Unit 24 gathered to welcome home the snowbirds. The occasion was a Halloween themed block party with scores of residents in costume. Several “celebrity” residents were in attendance – Batman and Batgirl, Stormy Daniels you know that infamous porn star from the https://www.hdpornvideo.xxx/ website who had sex with Donald Trump who might I add was not in attendance. We also had Mr. Clean, an unidentified Green Bay Packer and our favorite bird, the Roadrunner, to name a few.
We all enjoyed delicious fried chicken, salads, sides, desserts and plenty of beverages.
This was a great opportunity to introduce our new neighbors and welcome back our winter neighbors.
Based on the favorable comments, we suspect there will be another Unit 24 Block Party next year!
2018 picnic vets
Good times in Unit 49

Unit 49 held its ninth annual picnic at Catalina State Park on Monday, November 5. It was an exceptional weather day at the Gila Monster group picnic grounds. The event was hosted by the Unit 49 Social Committee who served delicious fried chicken, wonderful salads and tasty desserts. There were games by Bob and Colleen DeFraites and Maureen and Bob Edelblut, which provided a lot of military and sports challenges and prizes for the winners. Great table decorations and a fun “guess how many soldiers in the jar” contest in honor of our veterans. We paid tribute to the Unit 49 veterans of the armed services and again presented each one with a box of decorated M&M’s (our tradition), which is always well received. It was another fun and well attended get together for the Unit.
Enid and Gene Fowler attended Oktoberfest in appropriate dress for the occasion.
Villas 2 Happenings

Villas 2 is a busy neighborhood, with lots of activities happening on any given day. In addition to the many things that the residents do individually to keep active, the Social Committee of the Villas keeps people busy with social events. The last few months have been full of fun things to do.
The ladies in the neighborhood enjoy the luncheons, which happen regularly. Friday, September 21, they visited a restaurant new to most of the 21 women who attended. They carpooled to the Casas Adobe shopping center where Teaspoon, a breakfast and lunch eating place, is located. The restaurant has an attractive area in front where diners can enjoy a meal al fresco. Those who wish to eat inside have a view of a brick wall that features a chalkboard on which is written an interesting or quirky saying of the day. The group was seated inside and discovered that the menu has many offerings and either breakfast or lunch items can be ordered. Some of the choices were intriguing and different. The women enjoyed a leisurely lunch, with good food and equally good conversation, and some of the ladies decided to return and try other menu items.
The month of October is the time of year for the Villas ladies to spend a few days away, shopping, eating and having fun. The annual trip location this year was Tubac, a popular destination which the women choose every few years to visit. All Villas women are invited to attend, and this year a group of 12 participated. Several cars departed from SaddleBrooke on Tuesday, October 9 enroute to Tubac Golf Resort and Spa, the destination. Their rooms were lovely and comfortable, surrounded by lush grass and a beautiful landscaped campus.
The plan for the evening was wine for everyone in one of the larger units, followed by dinner in the bar area of Stables Restaurant at the resort. The next day the ladies visited the shops and had a late lunch together at Shelby’s Restaurant, a tradition when the group visits Tubac. The last day there was a flurry of shopping and then everyone headed for home, satisfied with the treasures they had purchased and the camaraderie they experienced.
October 16 was the date for another annual tradition, the Villas Oktoberfest, held at the SaddleBrooke One Activity Center. Attendance was 70 at this event and residents were treated to bratwurst on rolls along with potato salad, sauerkraut and pickles, with apple strudel and whipped cream for dessert. Tables were decorated with colorful fall leaves and conversation flowed easily, as it always does when Villas people congregate. A raffle was held and the entire proceeds went to the winners, who were Buckie Crabb, Angie Ruble, Bill Davis, Larry Crabb, Tony Ingle and Terri Maxey.
December 8 was the Holiday Brunch, held at the SaddleBrooke One Activity Center. Food to contribute to the Community Food Bank was collected at that time.
