Our first potluck of the season took place on November 10 in the SaddleBrooke One Activity Center. The JFG provided three briskets while attendees were encouraged to bring a main dish to share. This is one of JFG’s most popular activities.
The JFG will be instituting a new “scrambled” seating policy at all dinners. There will be a basket of numbers to pick from, which will assign you to a table. Naturally, couples will be seated together. If you have family or guests attending with you, please advise Laurie Colen in advance so you will be seated together. We trust that you will have a chance to meet some new members and perhaps even some old members!
Thanks to Judy Bram for opening her home to the ladies of the JFG for our monthly coffee and to co-hosts Marilyn Greenberg and Rene Mazin.
On Friday, November 9, Donna Silverman and Patti Reingold hosted the November Ladies’ Coffee.
The first men’s lunch of this season took place at the Catalina Room of the Mesquite Grill. There were a baker’s dozen of men in attendance and we all hope that there will be more attendees when the snowbirds return in full force. The group meets once a month for lunch and socializing at the Mesquite Grill.
The initial meeting of the Book Club took place on Thursday, November 8.
We discussed Beneath the Scarlet Sky by Mark Sullivan. “Based on the true story of a forgotten hero, [this] is the triumphant, epic tale of one young man’s incredible courage and resilience during one of history’s darkest hours. Pino Lella wants nothing to do with the war or the Nazis. He’s a normal Italian teenager—obsessed with music, food and girls—but his days of innocence are numbered.” The session was led/hosted by Linda Solomon and Phil Abromowitz.
Our book for December 13 is Dinner at the Centre of the Earth by
Nathan Englander at the home of Sam Horowitz and Sandi Epstein.
The Book Club has openings for a host/ess for April and a facilitator for May. The May book is The Bridal Chair by Gloria Goldreich. Kindly contact Sandy Epstein at [email protected].
Sy Efron has been collecting toys for the children at the Diamond Children’s Hospital for the last 14 years. Sy feels that it is time for him to retire and pass it on to another volunteer.
If you are interested in continuing with this program, please let our president, Bill Kaplan, know of your interest at 818-3284 or [email protected].
