As a reminder, Linus Lerner will front the orchestra on Saturday, October 20 at DesertView Performing Arts Auditorium at 7:30 p.m. and at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in Oro Valley on Sunday, October 21 at 3:00 p.m.

Camille Saint-Saens Piano Concerto No. 2 highlights the concert and features soloist Sandra Shen. Also, on the program are Conga del Fuego Nuevo by Marquez, Debussy’s Petite Suite, a musical version of “petite fours,” and Symphony No. 2, Sinfonia India, of Carlos Chavez.

Looking ahead to November concerts, the major work will be the lush-romantic Russian Symphony No. 2 by Alexander Borodin. Bernstein’s exuberant Candide Overture will open the concert followed by Flavio Gabriel playing Arutiunian’s Trumpet Concerto and the popular Girl from Ipanema by Jobim. Dates are November 17 at SaddleBrooke and November 18 in Oro Valley. Go to www.sasomusic.org for tickets, membership and information about SASO.

As another reminder, the Institute for Learning in Retirement, ILR, offers numerous classes in SaddleBrooke on a wide variety of subjects taught by knowledgeable residents who have professional backgrounds. Subjects can be historic, esoteric, lighthearted, academic and educational. Once-a-week two-hour classes can run one or two weeks or up to six weeks.
