Many folks who are interested in taking their photography beyond travel and family frequently ask, “What should I photograph?” The simple, short answer is, “Whatever interests you!” But at times it’s helpful to have something that sort of primes the creative pump!
That’s one of the reasons that the Digital Photography Club of SaddleBrooke (DIGS) offers monthly field trips to areas or activities that are both unique and provide a wealth of photo opportunities. These events are coordinated by DIGS member Bill George, who says that the outings not only offer a wealth of subject material, but are a lot of fun as well.
“It’s a great way to meet and interact with other people who share your photographic interests. You can get ideas and tips from the other attendees as well,” said Bill. “And it’s a great way to explore new areas and activities that are part of our great Sonoran Desert history and culture. Plus, there is usually food involved!”
One recent example is the club’s outing to Helldorado Days in Tombstone. “Many photographers find it difficult to photograph people, especially strangers,” Bill explained. “At this event, the local folks have gone to great lengths to develop their personas and really enjoy being photographed.”
DIGS is offering monthly field trips through the spring of 2018. Trips already planned include: Empire Ranch, the All Souls parade, Winterhaven Christmas Lights, Tucson Rodeo, the Steins Ghost Ranch and the Tucson Botanical Gardens.
DIGS usually meets on the second Saturday of the month in the Coyote Room at HOA 1 at 9:00 a.m. New members of all skill levels are always welcomed. We typically gather around 8:30 a.m. for informal discussions. For those interested, many members retire to the Roadrunner Grill for brunch and further discussions at the conclusion of the meeting.
