Richard Beaty
New Website FOR SBCC
SaddleBrooke Computer Club has been so privileged to have Francis Adams as our webmaster. Over the years our website evolved from a static information site to a highly interactive one. New members can join the club, existing members can pay their annual course fee and register for classes—all automatic and online.
Francis has been invaluable to the club. Unfortunately, he has moved away from SaddleBrooke and has requested that we appoint another webmaster to take over his duties.
As a talented programmer, Francis wrote custom code to address many of the special functions for our website. That makes it difficult to find a replacement webmaster with the necessary programming skills to take over the current site. So we’re starting from scratch, using third party club management software that will allow us to configure most, if not all, of the functions we have been used to, without custom programming.
The new site has been under development for about six months. We are excited to announce that it is ready for prime time, with just a few final tasks to perform before we “turn it on.”
Soon we will begin to import our current member database into the new site. When that happens, club members may receive an automated email letting them know that their membership has been transferred to the new website. There is nothing you have to do in response to this notice. We just want to give you a heads-up so you will know what’s going on when you receive this message.
The site will go live on or about May 1. At that time, you will receive an important message with your new website username and a temporary password. Full instructions for your first login will be contained in that email.
April Users Group Meeting – A Double Feature
First, Richard Beaty will give a detailed demonstration of the new website. You’ll see what’s new, what’s different and we’ll review the procedures for login, class registration and online payments. Following the website discussion, Gloria Quigg will discuss software for genealogy research.
The Users Group meeting will be held on Monday, April 17 at 1:00 p.m. in MountainView Clubhouse, West Ballroom. As always, User Group meetings are open to all SaddleBrooke residents. You do not have to be a member of the club to attend.
But If You Are A Member—
When you join SaddleBrooke Computer Club, you get unlimited access to all of our classes, both in the classroom and online. New additions have been made to our online “eLearn” website, including Adapting iPhone/iPad as We Age by Dian Lineback and video editing software Cyberlink PowerDirector 15 by Ron Talbot.
If you are not yet a member but wish to take advantage of our classes contact our Registrar Alice Stuart at 520-825-4239. Our online membership functions are currently frozen until our new website goes online in May.
