Unit 7 Potluck
Neil and Nancy Macdonald
Unit 7 manages to always have great participation with our potluck get-togethers. Over thirty of our residents gathered at Lois and Carl Travors’ home at 5.30 p.m. and, considering the number of absent snowbirds we have, this was an excellent turnout. The food was superb as evidenced by the speed at which it disappeared. Lois had prepared a really, really good main dish and most of us got to return a couple of times to recharge with another helping. We were most pleased to have Nickki Powers join us for our potluck. It was good to see her as it has been several months since she has been able to join us. We also added another $18 to our growing Christmas Party fund with our successful monthly split-the-pot raffle.
Great job on the patio refurbishment, Carl and Lois. That misting system is a real enhancement in keeping the outside cooler. Thanks again for having us at your home. Remember our next get-together will be at the Preserve for cocktails and dinner on their Santa Catalina MountainView patio at 5:00 p.m. on August 22. Donna Person and Micki Johns will be our hosts for this event.
Bathing Beauties of Unit 21
Midge Miller
Twenty six of the lovely ladies of Unit 21 met for a delightful afternoon of salads, wine, wine, wine, chatting and splashing at Anna Marie Marsh’s home on June 6.
As you can see, they were not all wet, but they were all smiles!
Unit 27 Activities
Sue Case, with help from Karen Spalter and Jan Talbot
The snowbirds may be gone, but in Unit 27 a get-together of even a small group is lots of fun. On July 15 Famous Dave’s was the destination for our Dine Around and everyone enjoyed a variety of BBQ dishes. There was plenty of good conversation and laughter. Those attending were John and Bunny Gill, Darlene and Ken Bergmeier, Barbara and Deane Noblett, Melody and Jim Brandstrom, Janie and Rick Grinstead, Chuck Aurand, Patti and Rich LaRosa and Roger and Karen Spalter.
The July Snack and Chat was hosted by Karen and Don Erickson on July 26 which, it turned out, was a cool enough night to allow people to sit out on the patio. One of the highlights of the evening was the chance to meet our newest residents, Pam and Don Barsness who hail from North Dakota. Betty and Rick Cole brought Betty’s sister and Phyllis Taylor made a rare summer appearance between camping trips, leaving husband Ron to hit the pickleball courts.
Once again neighbors reappeared from who knows where to attend the monthly Snack and Chat held August 22 at the home of Jan and Ron Talbot. There were over 30 people in attendance. That is an impressive number considering the winter visitors were gone and many others traveling. We were glad to have our honorary unit resident and nearby neighbor, Linda Thomas, with us. Rip Rapp was also there to make his farewell appearance before leaving for Minnesota to look for a new home and be closer to family. Many of the wine drinkers in the hood will miss having Rip here to taste wine with us. Wish him well for the future! Of course, there was lots of really good food to go around. As usual there wasn’t much left at the end of the evening.
A big Atta-Boy goes out to our unit webmaster, Ron Talbot, who for many years has maintained a very useful and interesting Unit 27 website. Just recently he migrated to a new provider with, of course, a different format. Those of us in the unit owe him a big debt of gratitude for his knowledge and his diligence. In addition to the website, Ron also takes most of the pictures of unit events and serves as the Unit 27 Social Director. Thanks, Ron.
