Rotarians and guests were privileged to have lunch with four local students while listening to Head Coach Laura Ianello talk about the University of Arizona Ladies Golf Program. College students Theresa Sweeney (Pima Community College) and Marissa McRae (BYU) both received scholarships from the Rotary Club of SaddleBrooke. Broc Traweek and Mariah Dockum were students of the month at San Manuel High School. Other special guests were San Manuel Counselor Dave Jungbluth and Benny DeSantiago, past president of the San Manuel Rotary Club. Since most of the money raised for Rotary scholarships comes from the club’s annual Fore For Kids Golf Tournament, it was most appropriate that the speaker represented both golf and education.

Coach Ianello’s Wildcat Team will be competing in SaddleBrooke in March.

Originally from Charleston, Illinois, Coach Ianello was ranked in the top 10 in Golfweek magazine’s amateur rankings for three years while a student at the University of Arizona. She was on the LPGA tour for five years before joining the University of Arizona staff in 2010. As a coach she’s quite proud of the fact that her team has the highest GPA of any University of Arizona sports team, boasting a 100% graduation rate; all this while winning PAC-10 Championships and NCAA honors.

SaddleBrooke is also home to the Sunrise Rotary club which meets at 8:00 a.m. on Thursdays at the MountainView Bistro.
