Harold Peter at the FINA World Swimming International Competition
The International Federation for Swimming (FINA) held its biannual international world championship swimming for Masters Swimmers in Montreal, Canada, this summer. Over 5,700 senior swimmers from 97 nations showed up to test their skills against a world class set of competitors. SaddleBrooke’s own Harold Peter arrived in Montreal in early August determined to compete against the best.
Harold is known around southern Arizona as an accomplished breaststroker in his age group. As a breaststroke specialist, he entered the 50, 100 and 200 meter breaststroke events in Worlds at Montreal. If it hadn’t have been for dislodging his goggles at the start early in the 50 meter event, Harold would have placed in the top ten in all three of his events. Unfortunately, the loose goggles produced enough interference to slow him down a bit. Nevertheless Harold swam himself twice into a Top Ten World Ranking in the 100 meter and 200 meter events. Way to go, Harold.
