Dr. Mark Magdanz
The Holiday celebrations are gone and so is most space for winter dancing in SaddleBrooke in Line Dancing with Rebecca. Since space is limited to preserve the very best quality fun and safety, now you will only find space on a wait-list started for late cancellations. There may be a couple remaining reciprocal spots for you in a SaddleBrooke Ranch class. You can move to a SaddleBrooke class as space allows in the future.
Why should you dance? To delay the effects of aging, per recent research. Aging – it’s inevitable, but we can slow life’s changes. Some things that delay cognitive decline are well established: 1) Social activity and learning; 2) Exercise; 3) Lower stress; 4) Eat healthy (fruits/veggies, Omega-3’s, antioxidants).
The Level 1(beginners come here) dancers have 10 weeks of dancing mid-day on Mondays in a brand new location. Lessons begin mid-January with a reserved space. Level 1 classes are for students new to line dance and those who like easier steps, a relaxed teaching pace and a less strenuous workout. Our experienced dancers who wish to wind down their dancing careers also love this class and its pace.
Level 2 meets Monday afternoon in HOA 2 and/or Tuesday mornings at HOA 1. Lessons begin mid-January and last for 10 classes. Level 2 dances are a bit more complex and the teaching/dancing pace is faster. You need to reserve space for these classes and previous experience within Rebecca’s program is suggested for 95% of dancers.
Level 3 Intermediate classes starting in January are the most challenging skill level for Rebecca’s students. It’s a lot of fun, more vigorous and a mentally challenging dance time. Intermediate lessons are only for folks with extra dance experience and stamina and last 1 ¾ hour. Some experienced line dancers have started their SaddleBrooke line dancing here, but the ability to allow yourself the time, permission for mistakes and laughter while catching up is necessary.
Student Practice sessions covering Levels 1, 2 and 3 are continuous year round and assist in placing dances in muscle memory. The schedule is emailed to class participants and sessions are Saturday afternoons. Rebecca’s classes have over the years included over 180 dances. Every new series brings some new dances as well as the return of old time favorites from previous sessions.
For those not familiar with line dance benefits: it is fun, aerobic, mentally stimulating, brain and body building, good for your balance and coordination, heart healthy, builds stronger bones in the hips and legs, etc. Line dancing can be a forever activity for you with all the choices available and the varying physical challenge levels. Contact Rebecca Magdanz at [email protected] or phone 818-2656 for locations, cost information and to be placed on one of her reservation lists. Rebecca is a 12 year, full-time SaddleBrooke resident teaching as an independent contractor here for almost nine years.
