2025 Chess Tournament

Stuart Watkins

Blame Greg Hlusko for suggesting the 2025 Chess Tournament, because 10 members of the SaddleBrooke Chess Club agreed. Now everyone plays everyone twice; once with the white pieces and once with the black pieces. Greg is the outgoing president of the club, and the new president is Bruce Arid. Both are skilled in the art of Checkmate.

The club meets each Monday and Thursday from 2 to 4:30 p.m. in the Ocotillo Room at the MountainView clubhouse. New to the game? Welcome. Do not want to be in tournaments? Welcome. Strict chess rules are not followed in the regular meetings, but in the tournament, if a player touches a piece, the piece must be moved, and when a player takes their hand off the piece, the piece stays there, even if it is a move made in error.

Chess is a lot more fun than bouncing all around a tennis court. All one must do is keep the mind alert and fingers off a piece one does not want to move. Bruce Arid can be contacted at 201-410-7100 for more information.
