This annual tournament, originally named “Home and Home,” began in 2011 when the SaddleBrooke One and SaddleBrooke TWO women’s golf clubs got together to double their fun. Good things come in threes, and sometimes the instructions actually say, “Do try this at home.” So, in 2017, the SaddleBrooke Ranch Women’s Golf Club joined in to triple the fun. Testing, testing, one, two, three. The successful, tried-and-true trifecta was renamed “Home and Home and Home.” This year, the Triple Alliance formed by the SaddleBrooke sister clubs was renamed “SaddleBrooke Women’s Classic.”
The first leg of the trigolflon was held on May 24 at MountainView, the second on May 31 at SaddleBrooke One, and the third on June 14 at SaddleBrooke Ranch. Each home host created teams of four by mixing players from all three clubs, determined the tournament format, and hosted an awards luncheon.
Following the contest, the golfers were home free at the 19th hole in the MountainView Ballroom to enjoy a little bar hopping. The liquid refreshment bar, the baked potato bar, and the salad bar ended with an ice cream bar. Our title sponsor, Wendy Harn of the estate planning law firm Morris Hall, gave an informative presentation regarding the importance of trusts, living wills, powers of attorney, and avoiding probate. We thank her for her sponsorship and for gifting each player with a beautiful burgundy golf towel. Golf pros Matt Hudson and Mike Karpe had been working on their three Rs (reading, writing, and arithmetic) to tally, post, and announce scores for the 48 women who were bringing home the bacon.
The format was two best net balls from each foursome, with up to four place winning teams in each of three flights. The triple threat women, excelling in driving, chipping, and putting, placing first and second in their flights were, in the Dottie Pepper Flight, first place: Barb Laskowski, Lee Rinke, Linda DeWitt, Midge Borchert; second place: Mary Ribacchi, Colleen Carey, Karen Oprish, Susan Kjar. Annika Sorenstam Flight, first place: Jo Helms, Linda Sherfy, Diane Cain, Trish Minard; second place: Ann Martin, Monika Bartko, Nan Nguyen, Connie Rocereto. Julie Inkster Flight, first place: Janey Clausen, Marge Rodgers, Carey Ricard, Mary Hoover; second place: Janice Mihora, Paula Michels, Corky Bosch, Ingrid McManus. KP winners who landed closest to home sweet home on the par-3 holes were Karen Erickson, Jean Cheszek, Eila Sallaberry, and Gail Campbell.
Three cheers for our event chairs Karen Erickson, Jeana Hodges, Cookie Kaplan, and Dianne Anderson who had been planning and replanning this event since 2019 during the three-year COVID challenge. Through their hard work and perseverance, they were able to bring it safely home this year. They received a hearty round of applause from the players. In the SaddleBrooke love triangle of women’s golf clubs, we all have two other homes away from home. The fun and camaraderie we had together this year can be summed up in three words: SaddleBrooke Women’s Classic.
