The two day golf tournament called the Javelina Cup, played between the HOA I and HOA II men’s golf clubs, was held on December 11 and 12. Two man teams from each HOA compete for points against each other. Each day is broken into two nine hole games where the two man teams can accumulate as many as twenty points per day.
The first day was held at the MountainView-Preserve Mens Golf Association home course The Preserve. After day one the M-PMGA lead was 312 points to 248. The matches got a bit tighter on day two when the tournament moved to the SaddleBrooke Mens Golf Association home at the Tucson/Catalina Course. The SMGA closed the 64 point lead dramatically, but the golfers from MountainView/Preserve held off the hard charging SaddleBrooke players and prevailed with a 22 point victory of 571 to 549, thus retaining the coveted Javelina Cup for the second straight year. The teams of Grant Farquahar and Jon Michels, playing for M-PMGA, and Larry Burleson and Jim Corrigan representing SMGA, led the way, both posting 24.5 points over the two day event.
After the competition was over the SaddleBrooke Mens Golf Club hosted a luncheon where the results were announced and stories told. A great couple of days for two friendly, but competitive neighbors.
