Winter Fitness challenge: 30 – minute swim

Rodger Bivens

New Year’s Resolutions about getting in shape for the year 2018 have been made…now it’s time to live up to them! Why not join in with the SaddleBrooke Swim Club’s winter fitness challenge 30-minute swim. Any SaddleBrooke resident can sign up to do it. The swim event will take place between February 15-February 28 at the DesertView pool. A sign-up list for specific times to perform your swim will be forthcoming. Timers will be available to record your times.

The challenge is simple. All you have to do is swim for 30 minutes at one time. You can use any swim stroke you like, and you can rest and hydrate during the swim…as long as you don’t get out of the water. You may use fins, paddles, pull buoys in your swim if you so desire. Each Friday at 10:00 a.m. from now leading up to the swim date, Martha Takakoshi will be available at the pool to help all those interested train for the event. All those that complete the challenge will be acknowledged accordingly.

For those of you who are U.S. Masters Swimmers members (USMS), you can also register (fee goes to charity) for the USMS Winter Fitness Challenge 30-minute swim on the USMS website to compete with other swimmers across the nation. USMS even provides a training schedule for those who register.

Why not consider taking on this challenge? It’s a great way to build up your fitness in a comfortable environment. Please contact [email protected] or [email protected] to sign up or with questions.
