Senior Village at SaddleBrooke – Neighbors helping Neighbors

Sandy Morse

Can you believe it? In less than 18 months, we have built the SaddleBrooke Senior Village into one of the largest and most functional of all Village chapters in the U.S. Currently there are over 200 Villages in the U.S. and we are not only one of the largest but one of the newest to achieve such outstanding membership! There are many Villages that have been in operation for over 15 years, whereas our SaddleBrooke Village is just a year and a half old!

For certain, there would be no Senior Village at SaddleBrooke if it were not for our amazing and dedicated volunteer teams and their efforts. Enter our Membership team, the first step in the Village process. Under the direction of Team Leader Mardie Toney, these volunteers have interviewed each and every one of our members, welcoming them into the Village family and giving them support and hope for staying in their homes. Although our interaction with new members may be brief, rest assured that our caring and compassionate interviewers are the most important step in the growth of our Village and the success of our mission. Thank you, thank you, thank you to Mardie and the following team members: Judith Ambrosini, Renee Beste, Pat Broers, Larry Byrd, Laurie Foster, Esta Goldstein, Karen Jahn, Mary Owens, Ann Patterson-Barton, Judy Williams and Edna Vajda.

Of course, “It takes a Village” and we also thank all of our Village volunteers who are committed to providing helpful services to our members, along with our patrons whose donations help us expand our services. We’ll drive you when you need that ride to the doctor or grocery store; we’ll help with that minor house fix it problem; we’ll install your lockbox and can even help with that confusing TV remote. Yet, there is another caring aspect of Senior Village that we also address and that is our human need to connect with one another. Yes, we all need friendly contact and socialization (and let’s throw in a little and fun, too). Our birthday parties, bingo games and now men’s putting brings us together for good times and fellowship; so come join us!
