SaddleBrooke Table Tennis Club to host open house

Bob Rubenstein, President

I am pleased to announce that the SaddleBrooke Table Tennis Club will be holding court at Space 37 at the Activities Fair on January 28 and will be following with an Open House on Sunday, February 19 to allow folks in our community the chance to relive those days of chasing table tennis balls around their basements or garages, or even try out the sport for the first time.

Beyond being a sport that can be played all year-round during our ever-changing weather patterns, table tennis, because of its demand for acute hand/eye coordination and quick reflexes, has been proven to have superb health benefits for seniors, regardless of athletic ability.

In addition to being a terrific remedy for our sore limbs and aching joints, table tennis is proving to provide significant benefits to brain function as well. According to Dr. Wendy Suzuki, professor of neuroscience and psychology at NYU, “table tennis works parts of the brain that are responsible for movement, fine motor skills and long-term memory functions.”

In addition, a group of British medical researchers has announced that tennis could have positive effects on prevention and treatment of Alzheimer’s disease.

We at the SBTTC look forward to seeing you at the Activities Fair, and be sure to mark your calendar for our Open House on Sunday, February 19, where you can meet new friends, challenge our table tennis robot, or perhaps knock around a few balls, just like you did in your basement back in 1965!
